Chats & Rooms
Chats
Chats are public or semi-public spaces where large groups of people can communicate in real time.
Unlike DMs, chats are open to join or leave freely, making them ideal for ongoing conversations tied to communities, topics, or user spaces.
Chats can be created by anyone — a user or a community — and can be public, private, or invite-only.
Users can browse available chats, join ones they have access to, or create their own.
Rooms
Each chat contains one or more Rooms, which are focused conversation areas within the chat.
When a chat is first created, it includes a single room called general, but the creator can add more rooms to organize discussion by topic, purpose, or audience.
Each room has its own feed of Threads and replies.
Rooms help keep conversations organized, especially in large or active chats.
Examples:
A public Chat for a music community might have rooms for genres, gear, and event meetups
A user-created Chat about startups might have separate rooms for fundraising, product, and hiring
Rooms can be open to all chat members or restricted to certain roles.
