Communities
What are Communities?
Communities are topic-centric groups that you can create or join to discuss anything you want. Communities can be public (anyone can view or join) or private (only members can view and must be invited by a moderator to join). You must be a member of a community to post in that community.
What features do Communities have?
Topics & Subtopics
Topics and Subtopics can be created by the moderators to allow for the sorting of different content within a community. A community can have as many topics as they would like and each topic can contain subtopics. These each function as a specialty section of the community to discuss specific things withing the community. A post can be posted to a community (general), a topic or a subtopic. Any post within the community will show up in the main community feed but will show which topic/subtopic it was posted in. Similarly, any post posted to a subtopic will show up in the feed of the topic in which the subtopic is contained.
Flair
Flair is created by the moderators of a community and allow members of that community to tag their content within that community. Each community will have different flair available as it is up to the discression of the moderators to pick which flair is available. Clicking on the flair tag in the right sidebar of the community will give you a feed of the posts using that flair within the community.
Rules
Creators and moderators of a community are able to create their own rules for their community, which show up in the right sidebar of the community page. These rules are up to the discretion of the moderation team and outline the expectations for users who participate in the community. Violation of these rules is basis for the deletion of content or the issuance of a suspension or ban from the community.
Chatrooms
The moderators have the option of creating a chatroom for their community, giving their users a place to discuss anything they'd like live with other members of that community. Joining a community does not mean you are automatically subscribed to their chatroom if they have one. You can find their chatrooms in the right sidebar of the community page.
Who owns a Community?
Communities are owned by their creator but the creator can also assign moderators to their community. Moderators are able to make changes to the community, ban members and delete posts within the community. Creators are also able to dismiss moderators if they so please.
How do I create a Community?
You can create a community by clicking the "+ Create Community" button in the bottom of the "My Communities" section of the left sidebar.
