Intro to fun.community

fun.app is a network for creating and sharing digital experiences.

The first sites on the fun.app network are News, Community, Social and Page. Through these sites you can create posts to share content such as text, images, and other media around fun.app. Each site on fun.app is built around posts and specialized according to its name.

Main Navigation

On all sites across fun.app, you will find a main navigation and toolbar (on desktop this is on the top of your screen, on mobile the toolbar is located at the bottom). Here you can find common site functions for each site such as Create Post, Explore, Manage Feeds, Search, Direct Messaging & Conversations, Notifications, and your User Profile and Account Settings. You also can switch sites on fun.app by clicking the name of the site in the top left corner.

This site is fun.community. On fun.community you can create and join communities.

Once you’ve joined a community you can create posts to share to that community, and that community will appear in your left sidebar under “my communities”. Once you’ve joined a community, content from that community will appear in your home feed.

Left sidebar

The left sidebar is your control panel for your experience. With this panel you have quick access to content sources you are following (communities and other users) and you can manage your custom feeds. There are two types of custom feeds in the left sidebar. The first is Channels, which are custom feeds that you can populate with sources you follow, such as other users and communities you join, and then you can share channels with others as your own custom built content source. The second is Collections, which are static feeds (similar to a photo album) where you can add individual posts to create a set that can be displayed on your profile and shared with others.

There are also two view modes for your home feed which can be selected from buttons above your left sidebar, View Home Feed, built from who you are following) and View All Posts, which shows all posts on a site.

Invitation Codes

Access to fun.app is available by invitation only. Currently, users are granted 5 single-use invitation codes once they verify their email. Please use discretion in inviting only members who will positively contribute to the fun.app experience.

The purpose of our invitation policy is to provide us with a system to mitigate bad actors from getting onto the network. Please keep in mind that you are responsible for users you invite, and further invites sent by users you add to the network will be indirectly associated with your account. We keep records of all invites, and we have a zero-tolerance policy towards those abusing our invitation system or intentionally inviting bad actors to our network.

Account and Community Naming

We currently have an open register for account names and community names. All account and community names are available on a first-come-first-serve basis.

However, please be mindful that existing generic, famous, and trademarked names may come under dispute later on as the network grows. We are not responsible for any trademark infringement claims made against your account. We reserve the right to revoke and/or change your username, especially if a name is taken simply to hold a name without any engagement with the network. You are allowed to create multiple accounts with your invite codes but excessive account creation for the sole purpose of holding usernames is considered abuse of the invite system and is something we monitor as administrators.

Please note in the near future we intend to reserve most dictionary single words and over time will likely reserve famous trademarks. That said, good-faith registration, use, and overall good stewardship of a username will generally be respected by administrators to the best of our ability according to trademark law.

Content Policy

We are free speech absolutists and will protect your right to freedom of expression and opinion, but understand that as a private business we have the right to define rules for what is and is not allowed on fun.app. That being said, when using our services please keep in mind:

NO NSFW OR GRAPHIC CONTENT ALLOWED. This includes such as but not limited to: NO NUDITY, NO SEXUAL CONTENT, AND NO GORE.
INTENTIONAL VIOLATORS OF OUR CONTENT POLICY MAY HAVE THEIR ACCOUNTS TERMINATED WITH PREJUDICE AND WITHOUT WARNING.

For further information on our exact content policy please refer to our terms of service (link can be found here and in the footer of our sites)

fun.app testing and feedback

fun.app is currently in alpha v.0.0.1 aka we just launched this thing and are figuring stuff out so thanks for your patience. We welcome your feedback - if you have any feedback, suggestions, or bug reports that you'd like to share with us, we have created a "Feedback" community of which you should already be a member and can post your feedback there, or you can direct message the account that created this post (info) though your feedback is more likely to be addressed if posted in the feedback community.

That should be everything you need to know for now. So welcome, we are happy you are here (+bonus points for reading this post).

Now please feel free to go ahead and customize your profile, start a community, share a post, and connect with your network on fun.app!

Feeds

As a user, you have 3 default feed options for community: Home feed, All feed & Interests feed.

The Home feed consists of everything you have followed on Community, whether that is a community, a user, a tag or anything else you can follow on the site. Content will only show up here if you have decided to follow it.

The All feed shows you all the content on Community regardless of your interests or what you follow. This feed contains everything the site has to offer and while not customized to you, allows you to get a pulse of the site at large.

You will also see all the keywords associated with each of your interests in the right sidebar of the interest feed, allowing you to access the keyword page.

Each feed on the network can be controlled by the user futher using our sort, filter and post size options located at the top of the feed.

The "Sort by" option allows you to choose the preferences by which you want your content ordered. The options are:

Hot: The most upvoted of the recent posts (Number of upvotes with time decay)New: The most recent posts (Chronological order)Top: The most upvoted posts based on time period (Number of upvotes)Rising: The new posts with the most momentum (Number upvotes right after posting)Controversial: The posts with the most controversy (Number of upvotes and downvotes)The "Filter" option allows you to choose which type of content you want to appear in your feed.

Filter by post type (allowing you to see only the type of posts selected)

Allowance of NSFW content (choose if you want to allow or omit NSFW content from feed) *This only appears if you have allowed NSFW content in your account settings

Allowance of AI content (choose if you want to allow or omit AI content from feed)

The "Post Size" option allows you to choose how the posts in the feed will appear. You can choose from full sized cards or masonry which will change the feed from linear to a mosaic style feed.

Page Builder

As part of your profile on Page, you are able to create your own customizable pages, giving you a freedom of expression like never before. Choose how you want the page laid out by adding rows and selecting different elements to include, then populate these sections to create a page as unique as you are. People will be able to view your pages from your profile, as well as like them or follow them. These pages are also accessible from the Page tab of your App profile.

Channels

Channels are custom feeds you can either create yourself or follow. Channels allow you to group different content into personalized feeds which group related content into a singular feed, eliminating the need for you to check each of them individually.

For example, you might want to create an art channel, which contains a photography community, a painting community, a couple of your favorite artists and a tag or two relating to art. When you view this community, you will see a feed comprised of just this content.

Channels can be private or public. Private channels are viewable only to you while public channels can be discovered, viewed and followed by other users. Your created public channels will appear in the right sidebar of your profile page.

Collections

Collections are a way for you to save your favorite content from the site. You can simply save content generally to your "My Bookmarks" collection, or you can create your own collections which work like save folders for content.

Collections can be private or public. Private collections are viewable only to you while public collections can be discovered, viewed and followed by other users. Your created public collections will appear in the right sidebar of your profile page.

Events

Events allow users to create a temporary space centered around an event. Events have a time for the event and location. Events can be public or private; public events are available for anyone to view or attend while private groups or joinable and viewable by invitation only. You can see who is invited to and attending an event by viewing the right sidebar of the event.

Before the event begins, you are able to post to the event to coordinate, share excitement and anything else. Once the event starts, a new feed will be opened for pictures, videos and other content taken and posted during the event; this feed will stay open for 24 hours after the end of the event. After that, the creator of the event can use this content to create a digital scrapbook of the event available to all attendees in “past events” of the “my events” section of the left sidebar.

Chats

Chats are a group DM space that allows groups of people to chat live about any subject. A chat can contain multiple rooms, each of which is their own message chain.

On Page, users are able to create chats. These chats are public and available to anyone who views their profile.

Additionally, you can post content to your circles; only people in that circle will be able to see the content you posted but they won’t know that it’s limited to only them. Circles are private, meaning no one will know you have put them in a circle nor will they know who else is in the circle.

Groups

Groups are a closed invite only space where you can connect with a select group of friends. Unlike circles, users are aware when they are added to a group and can see the other members of the group, as well as any content posted to the group. Communities

Each community is created and run by their own moderator team, who are in charge of their community. They are able to set up the community, dictate the rules of the community and moderator the content and behavior of their members.

Communities have various different tools that allow you to connect and share, all of which is controlled by the moderator team, including the following:

  1. Communities can have topics and subtopics within the community, allowing for sorting of content into more specific categories. These are created by the moderators of a given community and can be posted to when you post in that community. You can also visit these topics or subtopics from the right sidebar of a community, allowing you to find exactly the content you are looking for.
  2. Communities can have their own flair for content, which can be added to a post when posting to that community. Flair can be applied to posts to help sort or identify various different types of content. Flair is created and managed by the moderators of the community. Users can sort by flair type, only showing content which has been marked with a given type of flair.
  3. Communities can have chats associated with them, giving members a place to chat and discuss topics without creating posts. Unlike the post structure of the main communities, chats are a more casual discussion space for members to connect. When a community has a chat, they are able to create multiple chatrooms within the chat where members can discuss different topics of interest.
  4. Moderators can assign keywords to their community, which will make the community itself show up in the feed associated with that keyword, but also any interests which contain that keyword. This greatly aids with the discovery of your community and your content. Applying a keyword to a community will also mark any posts into that community with those keywords, meaning content posted in the community will automatically show up in keyword feeds.

Getting to know Fun.App

Fun.App is the central hub of our network, from which all of our other experiences can be accessed and where all their content is aggregated. App is essentially your home on the network, giving you a single place to monitor and command your entire network presence.

There are a couple main experiences as part of App.

  1. Here your home feed is an aggregator of all the content you follow on the individual sites. Everything you follow on our network (regardless of the site on which you follow it) will appear in this feed, allowing you to get a full view of the content you follow in a singular feed. If you wish, you can narrow down which sites you are aggregating content from by click on the site selectors at the top of the feed; when you select a given set of sites, the content in the feed will reflect those choices and only show followed content from those sites.
  2. You have a profile page on App, which is your central profile for the entire network. This page has an aggregator of all your content from the various sites, and lets people discover who you are on the network as a whole. From this profile page, people can follow you on any of our network sites, see your public content and see your profile information from each of the network sites. You can also add links to your external social media profiles, letting people find you off the network as well.
  3. Our explore page allows you to find content by your interests which you have selected. This will show you content from all around the network that realtes to your given interests. This is comprised of both a content feed and suggested sources that you may be interested in. You can narrow down which interests you want to see content from by clicking the interest selectors at the top of the page. You can also change your interests here at any time.
  4. We have keyword pages which work very similarly to interests but allow for more granular content selection. Our network has hundreds of keywords that can be applied to profiles, communities and content, which when used tags the feeds themselves and all content within with the given keyword. So if you find a keyword of interest, going to that keyword page will show you content, profiles, communities and more that all have to do with the given keyword. This is a great way to find content on a given subject across the network, eliminating the need for you to look for that content on each network site individually.
